  • Paraneoplastic syndrome caused by non-CNS primary tumors including:
    • Small cell carcinoma of the lung (classic cause)
    • Also testicular germ cell tumor, thymic, breast, ovarian, hematologic, and gastrointestinal malignancies
  • Causes memory and mental status changes
  • Affects temporal lobes
  • Appearance is similar to Herpes encephalitis
  • Bilateral (60%), unilateral (40%)
